2024 Cape Cod Bay Challenge – August 3rd, 2024

What is the Cape Code Bay Challenge (CCBC)?

  • The Cape Cod Bay Challenge (CCBC) is the oldest and most recognized standup paddle (SUP) event in the Northeast. The primary goal of the CCBC is to raise funds for a truly wonderful non-profit organization, Christopher’s Haven. Located near Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Christopher’s Haven consists of nine fully furnished apartments and a community recreation area for families of children being treated for cancer in nearby Boston hospitals.

How Does it work?

  • Distance Paddle (appr 16-miles):
      • 16-mile paddle from Duxbury Beach or Cohasset Harbor along the coast to the South River.  Up the South River to the Keville Rail Trail Bridge near Levitate Surf Shop (1871 Ocean Street).
      • Paddlers will depart Duxbury Beach or Cohasset Harbor at 6:30 am. The location for the start will be made 2-days prior to the event based on wind & weather conditions.
      • Paddlers will need to confirm that they have the experience and conditioning to complete the mileage required by the event. This is for experienced paddlers only and is not something you should attempt if you are new to the sport.
      • Distance Paddlers must commit to put in the effort to raise at least $1,000 for Christopher’s Haven. A link to set up a 2024 CCBC donation page will be provided after registration.

  • CCBC-Lite Paddle (appr 5-miles) – Replace the current text with the following:
      • 5-mile paddle up the South River to from the Marshfield Yacht Club the Keville Rail Trail Bridge near Levitate Surf Shop (1871 Ocean Street).
      • CCBC-Lite paddlers will wait for the Distance Paddlers to arrive at the launch point and then will join the paddle up the South River to the finish.
      • CCBC-Lite paddlers will be required to arrive at the Marshfield Yacht Club (11 Ridge Rd, Marshfield, MA 02050) at 10:00 am for a 10:30 am departure.
      • Upon arrival at the Rail Trail bridge, paddlers will exit the water and walk their boards across the street to the After Paddle Celebration which will take place – Levitate Backyard & Rexicana Surf Cantina (from 12:00 pm-4:30pm).
      • CCBC-Lite Paddlers must commit to put in the effort to raise at least $500 for Christopher’s Haven. A link to set up a 2024 CCBC donation page will be provided after registration.

  • Virtual Paddle
      • Any time during the week of Saturday, July 27 to Saturday, August 3rd, virtual paddlers will be required to navigate a 15 mile+ route (all at once) of their choice.
      • Paddlers will need to confirm that they have the experience and conditioning to complete the mileage required by the event. This is for experienced paddlers only and is not something you should attempt if you are new to the sport.
      • Virtual Paddlers will NOT be allowed to paddle alone and will be required to have a support boat if they are paddling a route that will take them further than 1/8 of a mile offshore.
      • Virtual Paddlers will submit a screenshot of their completed route and time as recorded on your time/route tracking app (such as MapMyFitness or Strava)

Loft Events

The Loft is utilized to provide programming for children undergoing treatment, siblings and parents. Activities coordinated primarily by volunteers, include massage therapy, pet therapy arts & crafts, movie nights, birthday and holiday celebrations, excursions to local attractions and tickets to local sporting events. We have meals donated to us from Local non-profits and restaurants. When a child is finished with their treatment they usually ring a bell at the hospital signifying their accomplishment. We have a big “ Bell Ringing Party” to celebrate them and the entire family.

Siblings are an important part of the Christopher’s Haven community. Our staff ensures the siblings of the child receiving treatment are included in events and programs. Activities include summer camps, excursions, sporting events tickets and other experiences. All siblings are part of any program or activity offered at Christopher’s Haven.

Help a Family

Every contribution, big or small, plays a vital role in ensuring these families have the support they need during their most challenging moments.
